About us
Serving our neighbourhood since 1976.
Our story
We're a volunteer-run, inclusive organization committed to lifting up and celebrating our diverse community. We do our best to enhance and promote community culture through thoughtful programming designed to engage and support our residents.
We strive to be our neighbourhood's voice within Calgary, and to give Whitehorn residents a place to be heard. Our programs and events are open to everyone, and you do not need to be a member to come along. All are welcome here. Membership is open to every resident of Whitehorn, and we offer Associate Memberships for people outside Whitehorn who would like to support the association by joining.
The WCA runs fitness programs, games days and meet-ups for seniors, a toddler playgroup, and supports our community Girl Guides. We run a free community pantry. Our facilities include a community garden, an outdoor rink used year-round, and tennis courts run by the City of Calgary, and we host free family-friendly events throughout the year. The Whitehorn Community Association is a registered not-for-profit society incorporated under the Societies Act of Alberta.
Our philosophy
Mr. Rogers was right
We value working together as a team to make it happen.
By promoting community interests through purposeful leadership, intentional development and open communication, we work at nurturing a welcoming place to live where residents can enjoy the benefits of family, friends and community. Through teamwork and shared values we are growing the community we envision: one that offers an inspiring lifestyle and quality of life.
Our mission
We also believe being part of an engaging community is integral to creating a sense of belonging.
We strive to provide residents with affordable and no-cost ways to enjoy their neighbourhood, removing some of the barriers they may be facing. Our team works to create programs, events and safe spaces that give residents the chance to sit, talk and build friendships. We get to know our neighbours, and those friendships help us keep building a safe, thriving community for everyone.
